Abstract

Objectives: The change in feedback initially played a pivotal role in the transition from problem-focused brief therapy to Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), later developing into one of the main components of the SFBT approach. However, there have been few studies on feedback so far.
Methods: This study conducted a case study by using two cases to analyze the scenes in which feedback was built during the process of SFBT.
Results: The results are as follows. First, feedback was the product of a rather dynamic, rather than a mechanical or linear interactive process. Second, despite the serious problems of the clients, in both cases, the counselors were able to initiate ¡®solution talk¡¯ by themselves, paying attention to the resources and changes that the clients were able to apply to building a solution for themselves.
Conclusions: These findings empirically support the theory of SFBT, which claims that feedback in SFBT is future-oriented and focused on the expansion of solutions rather than past-oriented and focused on problem elimination. A discussion of the practical and theoretical implications of feedback was provided.
